Panelvent DWD Used in New Dwelling in North Waltham

Director of Research for Natural Building Systems Limited, Dr Mike Lawrence has recently used Panelvent DWD panels on his own innovative low energy house. Panelvent DWD forms an intrinsic part of the ADEPT construction system. ADEPT is a fully integrated prefabricated construction solution including breathable walls and roof, cladding, floors and internal walls. Key to the performance of the system is the use of natural building materials including hemp to provide a moisture regulating low-carbon construction.

The use of standardised, repeated elements combine with material optimisation to make a system that is affordable, scalable, quick to build and suitable for awkward access or infill sites. Panels and components are individually demountable, making it easy to partially or completely disassemble the structure, re-use elements and make non-destructive alterations.

On this site Panelvent DWD was used on all external walls and below the roof trusses as part of an airtight layer. The performance of the house is being monitored and initial data from the building shows excellent performance values. The Predicted Energy Assessment on the 2189 m2 dwelling has produced an A rated Energy Efficiency Rating of 109 and and A rated Environmental Impact (CO2) rating of 106. The house benefits from solar panels and the use of woodfibre insulation to promote water vapour open construction and to avoid summer heat gain.
